“Yes, you are incapable, and I’m not sure why you think you can do anything well.”
Ouch—that is painful to hear! You can physically feel it in your body.
Of course, this is not something you would ever say to a client or someone you care about.
Yet, how often do you say similar things to yourself?
Somewhere, we have learned that being critical and harsh with ourselves is the route to improvement.
Research shows otherwise.
Research demonstrates that being kind and compassionate to yourself actually builds your strengths, resiliency, optimism, coping abilities, and overall well-being.
When you can offer yourself the same kindness that you would to those you care about, you can physiologically relax your nervous system and decrease cortisol levels.
You accept yourself—however you are.
You are calmer, and you can think clearly.
You can be flexible, expansive, and present in your coaching.
When you practice being kind to yourself, you will bring that energy to your clients, and support them from a place of inner acceptance.
What is the MSC Course?
MSC is an 8-week, evidence-based, compassion training course (created by psychologists Dr. Kristen Neff and Dr. Chris Germer) that focuses on cultivating self-compassion through such activities as meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, practices in small groups or pairs, and home practices. The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. Although mindfulness is the foundation for self-compassion, the MSC course is primarily focused on compassion training.
Topics covered during the course
Introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion
Practicing Mindfulness
Practicing Loving-Kindness
Discovering your Compassionate Voice
Living Deeply
Meeting Difficult Emotions
Exploring Challenging Relationships
Embracing your Life
After completing this program, you will be able to:
Use self-compassion practices to motivate yourself with encouragement, rather than self-criticism.
Contend with challenges and difficulties by providing self-comfort.
Shift negativity biases to cultivate happiness
Manage caregiver fatigue
Change how you respond to negative events and stressors
Apply core self-compassion practices into daily life.

No prior experience needed. If you don’t have any experience with mindfulness and meditation, please be reassured that it is not necessary to participate in this course.
Completing an MSC course is a prerequisite for becoming a Center for Mindful Self-Compassion MSC teacher. Thus, this course qualifies as one of the prerequisites for training as an MSC teacher.
You will need to complete an intake interview. During the process of practicing and learning self-compassion, it is anticipated that you may connect with difficult emotions and your own suffering. As such, we speak/meet with you to provide additional information about the course, answer any questions that you may have, and clarify with you if this is a good time for you to participate in the course.
It is important that you feel emotionally ready and safe to embark on this deep dive and exploration into self-compassion. If you have recently experienced a traumatic event or if your current life circumstances are overwhelming your ability to cope, we are gently recommending that you delay taking the course at this time and reconsider in a few months.
Course fees will be refunded after the interview if it is determined that the course is not a good fit for you at this time.

TESTIMONIALS
Sarah Duncan, MSC course participant
“Thank you for patiently, gently, and kindly leading us on this journey of self-compassion. I gained a great deal of self-awareness and a deeper appreciation for the tender and hidden parts of myself. It's just the start of being kinder to myself, but already a new way of experiencing my inner and outer worlds... a new season of growth and awareness! You are very gifted in your teachings, especially how you model the way of being and living in acceptance and non-judgement, while actively expressing encouragement and love. Thank you for giving so much of yourself to us. You make the world a more beautiful place by your essence, presence and leading!”
