It “happens” under these circumstances because your body is trying to take care of itself through the breath by either speeding it up, slowing it down, or even suspending it momentarily. This automatically happens, like most functions of your body.
However, unlike most other functions, you have control over your breath. So if you are fatigued, you can direct your breath to give you energy. If you are nervous, you can direct your breath to bring calm.
Breathing techniques provide you with tools you can use for immediate positive results. Being able to consciously control your breath, you can bring better balance to your mind and body.
